Somon Makhmadbekov Wins a Mronze Medal of the 2024 World Judo Championships in Abu Dhabi

DUSHANBE, 21.05.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik athlete Somon Makhmadbekov won a bronze medal at the 2024 World Judo Championships in the -81 kg weight category.
He defeated athletes from France, the Netherlands and Egypt. At the next stage, Makhmadbekov lost to the Georgian athlete Tato Grigalashvili.
In the repechage fight, Tjik athlete defeated David Karapetyan from AIN team and continued to fight for the bronze medal.
In the fight for the bronze medal, Makhmadbekov defeated Dmitry Gochilaidze from Georgia.
It is the second bronze medal at the World Championships in the history of judo of Tajikistan. Rasul Bokiev won his first medal at the World Judo Championship back in 2007 in Brazil.
