Ten New Historical and Cultural Sites Discovered in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 22.07.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – As part of the ongoing re-registration of cultural heritage sites, specialists from the Agency for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage under the Government of Tajikistan have identified and registered ten new historical and cultural monuments. The announcement was made by Agency Director Sherali Khojazoda during a press conference on July 21.
Among the newly discovered sites are two 7th–8th century Buddhist monasteries in Norak, three Sasanian-era monuments in the Shamsiddin Shohin district, two medieval rock inscriptions in Kuhistoni Mastchoh, and three architectural monuments of the same era in the Ayni district.
Numerous artifacts related to ancient jewelry-making, pottery, coin minting, and urban planning were also unearthed. The nationwide re-registration process is ongoing.
Additionally, during inventory work in the city of Tursunzoda, several cases of structural damage to heritage sites were recorded. Restoration efforts are currently underway.
