Emomali Rahmon and Yuan Jiajun Discuss Expanding Regional Cooperation in Chongqing

On May 13, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honourable Emomali Rahmon visited Chongqing as part of his state visit to the People’s Republic of China and met with Yuan Jiajun, Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The meeting discussed establishing direct links between Tajikistan’s regions and this city, considered one of China’s most important industrial and innovation centers.

As noted, Chongqing, with a population of 34 million, is one of the largest cities and logistics hubs on the route connecting China with Central Asia and plays a key role in the implementation of the global Belt and Road Initiative. The head of our state, Emomali Rahmon, emphasized Tajikistan’s interest in establishing effective cooperation with this city in areas such as industry, new technologies, green energy, science, education, communications, and the development of smart cities, and encourages public and private entities on both sides to establish mutually beneficial cooperation.

Considerable attention was also given to training young professionals in innovation and modern technology through student and faculty exchanges at higher education institutions, as well as allocating additional educational quotas for Tajik youth.

It was noted that 118 Tajik students are currently studying in this city. Three Tajik teachers also work there.

During the meeting, a decision was made to annually allocate 50 additional quotas for Tajik youth in higher education institutions in this city.

Following the meeting, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, and Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China Yuan Jiajun visited an exhibition of the Chongqing urban development plan.

A spectacular drone show was organized in honor of President Emomali Rahmon’s state visit to the People’s Republic of China.

Five thousand drones displayed images of the scenic and historical landmarks of Tajikistan and China, the Silk Road, and the intangible cultural heritage of the two countries, creating an unforgettable impression.
