On Sept. 16, Tajikistan Finance Minister Fayziddin Qahhorzoda met in London with Ekaterina Miroshnik, director of sustainable infrastructure for Eurasia at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The sides discussed priority areas for future cooperation, Khovar reported, citing the Ministry of Finance.

The meeting focused on the energy sector, including the role of the Roghun Hydropower Plant in strengthening energy security and supporting industrial development. The sides also discussed electricity transmission, power grid modernization and reducing energy losses.

They exchanged views on developing the transport sector and regional connectivity, irrigation infrastructure, digitalization and other areas.

Qahhorzoda also met with Fatomata Bouaré, vice president and chief risk officer of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. They discussed risk management in cooperation between Tajikistan and the bank, including the financial viability of projects and their preparation and implementation.

The sides also exchanged views on experience with fulfilling obligations related to local-level projects and measures to strengthen budget planning, coordinate with local executive authorities and monitor financial commitments.

Separately, Qahhorzoda participated in a roundtable discussion in London titled “Opportunities in Emerging and Frontier Markets,” attended by representatives of international banks and investment firms.

Qahhorzoda presented Tajikistan’s economic and financial developments and briefed participants on the domestic government securities market, financing for construction of the Roghun Hydropower Plant, progress on the project, investor participation and the government’s role in its implementation. A video report on construction activities at the plant was also presented.

Qahhorzoda invited representatives of the participating companies to visit Tajikistan to learn more about the country’s investment opportunities and priority projects.
