Twenty-four historical and cultural sites from Tajikistan have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, while 13 elements of the country’s intangible cultural heritage have been recognized by the organization as of 2026, President Emomali Rahmon said in an address marking Tajikistan’s 35th anniversary of independence.

Emomali Rahmon said 16 festivals and commemorative events had also been held under UNESCO auspices at the initiative of the Tajik government, honoring prominent figures in Tajik science and literature and highlighting the contribution of the country’s historical monuments to world civilization.

“These achievements reflect not only the richness of our national culture, but also the constructive social environment that is possible only in conditions of peace, stability and sustainable development,”  Emomali Rahmon said.

The president said preserving national values had become increasingly important in an era of globalization, particularly the Tajik language and culture, as well as traditional customs and practices.

“We are well aware that, in the context of globalization, preserving national values — first and foremost, our language and culture, customs and traditions — is a guarantee of the stability of the Tajik state and the preservation of our Tajik identity in the rapidly changing 21st century,”Emomali Rahmon said.

“Therefore, preserving and developing our national culture, the state language, our historical and spiritual heritage, and authentic Tajik values will remain among the most important priorities of our state and society,” he added.
