The Fourth Regional Dialogue on the Circular Economy in Central Asia was held under the chairmanship of Aziz Giyozoda, deputy chairman of Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament, to discuss links between the circular economy, climate action and investment, Khovar reported, citing the Majlisi Namoyandagon.

The event brought together representatives of Central Asian parliaments, government agencies, the European Union, international organizations, financial institutions, businesses and expert communities.

The dialogue was organized in cooperation with the Majlisi Namoyandagon, under the European Union’s SWITCH-Asia program and with support from the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia.

Giyozoda said the circular economy has evolved beyond environmental protection and waste management to become an important driver of economic development, industrial modernization, competitiveness, investment and climate resilience.

During working sessions, parliamentarians from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan discussed legislative reforms, climate-related investment, entrepreneurship and ways to strengthen interparliamentary cooperation.

Orif Amirzoda, chairman of the Ecology Commission of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presented an update on work to draft and adopt an Environmental Code, develop waste management systems and incorporate circular economy indicators into Tajikistan’s Medium-Term Development Program for 2026-2030.

Participants emphasized the need to move from discussing circular economy principles to implementing practical measures that connect legislation, circular business solutions, climate impact and investment.

The dialogue also highlighted the importance of further developing the Central Asian Parliamentary Platform, sharing legislative experience and strengthening cooperation among parliaments, government agencies, businesses, financial institutions and international partners to promote resource efficiency and sustainable economic development.
