Qobiljon Khushvakhtzoda, president of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, met Oct. 9 with a group of archaeologists from France, Italy and Russia to discuss expanding scientific cooperation, conducting joint archaeological expeditions, preserving discoveries and training young specialists, the NIAT Khovar news agency reported, citing the academy.
Khushvakhtzoda highlighted the work of research institutions studying Tajik history and civilization, investigating archaeological sites and preserving the country’s historical and cultural heritage. He stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration with international researchers.
Archaeological research plays a key role in understanding the development of ancient civilizations, the lifestyles of early societies and cultural connections between peoples, the meeting noted. Cooperation between Tajik and foreign scholars can facilitate the exchange of expertise, the use of modern research methods and more comprehensive studies of historical monuments.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of studying, preserving and restoring archaeological sites and historical and cultural monuments under the cultural policy of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
Tajikistan’s archaeological heritage includes ancient cities, settlements, fortresses and other sites that provide evidence of the region’s traditions of statehood, urban planning, craftsmanship and cultural and trade relations.
Participants emphasized the need to share scientific information and present research findings through academic publications and international conferences.
The meeting underscored the potential for international archaeological partnerships to advance research, preserve valuable historical artifacts and deepen understanding of Tajikistan’s contribution to the region’s cultural development.
