WELCOME TO DUSHANBE! Tajikistan’s Capital Will Host The Fifth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia
DUSHANBE, 13.06.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Chaired by Tajikistan, the fifth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) will be held in Dushanbe on June 15, 2019.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon will hold meetings with a number of member state leaders in order to discuss the prospects of development of bilateral and multilateral relations.
The summit will also provide a favorable opportunity for the heads of member and observer states to hold bilateral meetings.
CICA’s 27 member states include Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Egypt, Israel, India, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Cambodia, China, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka. Belarus, Indonesia, Philippines, Ukraine, the United States and Japan currently hold observer status. Observer organizations include the United Nations (UN), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TurkPA). CICA’s partner organizations are the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and its summit guest is the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
The summit will be covered by 650 domestic and foreign media representatives, including journalists from Tajikistan, China, Canada, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Iran, Cambodia, Turkey, India, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Iraq.
CICA was established in 1992 with the support of the UN.
The main priority of this summit is to discuss the issues of security and cooperation in Central Asia and contribute to combating terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and transnational crime on a global scale.
CICA’s highest decision-making body, — the heads of its member states and governments,- meets every four years. The last CICA summit was held on May 21, 2014 in Shanghai, China. Tajikistan assumed the chairmanship in the autumn of 2018.
The summit will be held in the Kokhi Navruz building. A press center with 450 seats and equipped with phones, fax and copying machines, stationary and 350 computers connected to high-speed internet has been set up on the first and the second floors of the building. The summit will be broadcast live on both floors with devices available for its simultaneous translation into Russian, English and Chinese.
