No Youth Day Celebrations Today, But Appreciation of Youth Efforts Noted
DUSHANBE, 23.05.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Youth Day is customarily celebrated by the organization of various cultural and recreational activities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, today this is not possible. However, efforts by the youth in these troubling times are worthy of note and praise.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Youth and Sports Affairs Dilnoza Ahmadzoda, as the government is attempting to eradicate the pandemic, young volunteers are also contributing to the fight against COVID-19.
“Many people, including the elderly, disabled, large and poor families are in a difficult situation. They need practical, moral, and informational support. The committee in collaboration with its partners has opened the Volunteers Information Center for the COVID-19 Prevention and Control, which operates 24-hours a day, every day. Today, over 70% of the population in Tajikistan is made up of the young and in difficult times for the country, they are showing their morality, good breeding and patriotism. The younger generation is not indifferent to our common misfortune,” says Ahmadzoda.

Dozens of volunteers operate around the clock at the Volunteers Information Center, which has branch offices in GBAO, Khatlon and Sughd. The volunteers are made up of mostly the younger citizens. Today more than 10,000 young people are actively volunteering in the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, personal hygiene, providing information and advice to those in need, and are participating in charity events, distributing food products.
Volunteers in each center assist over 100 citizens daily.

“We even have volunteers among the 30,000 students studying abroad. They have opened additional branches in eight Russian cities, which are also open around-the-clock,” she adds
“In these difficult times, our younger citizens, more than ever, are showing a high sense of patriotism and responsibility for security and stability in our country,” she notes.
