Azim Ibrohim Appointed Head of National Commission on TRACECA Issues

DUSHANBE, 21.10.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – The Minister of Transportation Azim Ibrohim has been appointed Chairman of Tajikistan’s National Commission on the Transport Corridor Europe-the Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) Issues.
Prime Minister Kohir Rasoulzoda nominated Azim Ibrohim’s candidacy to this position and President Emomali Rahmon supported it.
European Union TRACECA — the Transport Corridor Europe-the Caucasus-Asia program was initiated at a conference in Brussels in May 1993 which brought together trade and transport ministers from Caucasian and Central Asian countries (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan).The participants of the conference adopted the Brussels Declaration on the implementation of the TRACECA technical assistance program.
The goal of the TRACECA program is to provide assistance in the restoration of the transport infrastructure of the newly independent states of the South Caucasus and Central Asia, create a shortest transport corridor connecting Europe and Asia and thereby integrating the region into the West, as well as create a reliable transport system serving the implementation of EU programs aimed at the revival and development of the economies of these states.
The membership of TRACECA consists of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Lithuania (observer country of TRACECA) and Turkmenistan (not member of TRACECA) participate in the TRECECA program. The European Commission is likewise cooperating with the TRACECA.
