DUSHANBE, 07.01.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Scientists from several countries are researching plant-based drugs that can defeat COVID-19.
According to ToDay News Ufa, scientists from Iran, Italy, Bosnia Herzegovina have found that pomegranate peel extract is effective against viruses. The substances contained within it protect cells from the penetration of the influenza virus, and also block the transmission of its RNA.
Scientists have found that polyphenols play a decisive role in this, which protect plants from various kinds of viruses, bacteria and fungi.
Compounds in pomegranate peel extract are capable of inhibiting the activity of the coronavirus enzymes that are responsible for its survival. Scientists want to use them to create drugs for the treatment of COVID-19.
The development of possible complications during the infection is hindered by the substances contained in the extract of Siberian larch.
Scientists plan to also research citrus fruits, turmeric, blueberries and green tea.
The view of foreign scientists about the benefits of phytotherapy for combating coronavirus was confirmed in an interview with Khovar by a Tajik doctor, phytotherapist, head of the Association of Phytotherapists Dr. Mullozuhur Tohiri.
“Indeed, in addition to traditional vitamins and minerals, pomegranate peel contains tannins, polyphenols, essential oils, and pectins. Due to its diverse biological composition, pomegranate peels are useful for strengthening immunity, treating and preventing various viral diseases,” he said.
Dr. Tohiri also recommended that healthy people drink 500 ml of warm water on an empty stomach.
“Water is the best medicine,” he said.
Additionally, it is useful to consume a tablespoon of honey twice a day before meals for one month, as well as fruits, vegetables and herbs. It is also useful to exercise daily.
