Volume of Trade Between Tajikistan and China Increased by Over 169%

DUSHANBE, 08.09.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – The volume of foreign trade turnover between Tajikistan and China for the first seven months of 2022 reached $766.1 million, which is $313.9 million, or 169.4% more compared to the same period in 2021. This was announced on September 7 during the 12th meeting of the Tajik-Chinese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, reports the Tajik Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda and the Chinese First Deputy Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen through videoconference.
China’s share in Tajikistan’s foreign trade turnover is at 18.5%, taking the third position.
“Export of goods to China from January through July 2022 amounted to $245.1 million, which is $179.4 million, or 3.7 times more than during the same period last year. Imports of goods amounted to $521.1 million, which is $134.6 million, or 34.8% more than in the same period last year,” the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade notes.
The parties constructively discussed a number of issues of cooperation in trade, economy, investment, industry, energy, education, science, agriculture, technology, and other fields.
Zavkizoda made a number of specific proposals, including the creation of joint ventures in the field of industry, especially textiles, production of solar panels, batteries, electric vehicles, creation of industrial enterprises within the free economic zones of Tajikistan, and the implementation of digital projects, as well as the creation of technology parks.
Also, he asked the Chinese side to provide $500 million — a share of Tajikistan, which was provided for within the framework of the Summit of the Leaders of Central Asia and China, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations with countries of Central Asia.
