DUSHANBE, 14.07.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – The 6th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Think Tank Forum under the theme «Promoting the Shanghai Spirit and Advancing Sustainable Development» was held on July 12–13 in Shanghai, China.

The Forum was organized in advance of the upcoming SCO Heads of State Summit, scheduled for autumn 2025 in Tianjin, China.

The agenda of the forum covered a wide range of issues related to current challenges and the future development of the SCO. Topics included: consistent promotion of reforms in global governance, institutional development and reform within the SCO, maintaining regional stability, security, and peace, as well as supporting sustainable development and common prosperity in the region.

The forum brought together more than 100 experts and diplomats, including heads of leading think tanks and universities from SCO member states.

Tajikistan was represented by Khayriddin Usmonzoda, Director of the Center for Strategic Research, who delivered a speech at the third session titled “Maintaining Regional Stability and Security”. His report focused on “Some Priority Paradigms for SCO Development in the Current Geopolitical Context.”

It was noted that the SCO, through its agenda and activities, has improved the quality and level of regional cooperation in Central Asia, and will continue to contribute to the expansion and deepening of such cooperation.

“The high level of attention paid by the leaders of Central Asia to the SCO stems from the Organization’s constructive efforts, especially in resolving border issues between member states. These efforts have helped prevent adverse effects of potential conflicts on regional security,” Usmonzoda said.

“A prime example is the Tajikistan–Kyrgyzstan Border Agreement, signed on March 13, 2025, which stands as a milestone of interstate, regional, and international significance,” he added.
