President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, South Korean Prime Minister Han Seong-suk discuss expanding bilateral ties

On September 16, within the framework of his official visit to the Republic of Korea, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, Honorable Han Seong-suk.

At the outset of the meeting, President Emomali Rahmon stated that Tajikistan considers the development and expansion of relations with the Republic of Korea to be one of the important priorities of its foreign policy.

The parties discussed the comprehensive development of friendly ties and multifaceted relations, and highlighted the importance of the programmes of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Tajikistan, as well as the development of cooperation within the “Central Asia–Republic of Korea” framework.

The need to expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation in the fields of industry, energy, agriculture, and transport, as well as to further activate bilateral mechanisms, particularly the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, was emphasized.

With a view to expanding relations, it was also proposed to establish a Joint Working Group on Industrial and Investment Cooperation.

The parties expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in the areas of finance, banking, artificial intelligence, and the digitalization of the economy.

A productive exchange of views took place on expanding cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including in the fields of education, healthcare, tourism, and youth policy.

Promoting cooperation in the area of labour migration and facilitating the related procedures was also among the important topics discussed.

The parties also exchanged views on developing cooperation within international organizations, particularly the United Nations, as well as on specific issues on the global agenda.
