Tajikistan suspends its consular activities in Afghanistan’s provinces of Faizabad and Kunduz
Dushanbe, 16.01.2016. (NIAT «Khovar»). — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan has informed that in connection with the situation in the Northern provinces of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the activities of consulates of the Republic of Tajikistan in Kunduz and Faizabad are temporarily suspended and will resume after the stabilization of the situation.
These measures were taken in connection with the possible threats to life and health of Tajik consulate’s staff in Kunduz and Faizabad.
It should be recalled that the Tajik consulate, located in the city, was one of the first buildings attacked and robbed on September 28, 2015 when Kunduz city, in northern Afghanistan was seized by militants of «Taliban» movement.
Also the Consul of Tajikistan in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, Rustam Mahmoudi faced an armed attack on May 16, 2014, in which the latter received gunshot wounds.
In connection with the possibility of recurrence of such incidents, as well as the current unstable situation in the provinces of Badakhshan and Kunduz of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan decided to temporary suspend the operation of consulates in these areas.
It should be noted that the Tajik Embassy in Kabul, as well as the Consulate in Mazar-e-Sharif continue their activities as usual.
