Tajik FM and Japan’s Chargé d’Affaires signed the exchange of notes on the project for Road Maintenance in Sughd and Khatlon regions
Dushanbe, 03.03.2016. (NIAT “Khovar”). — The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov and Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Tajikistan Takashi KAMADA today have signed in Dushanbe the Exchange of Notes regarding the implementation of the project for “Improvement of Equipment for Road Maintenance in Sughd Region and the Eastern Part of the Khatlon Region of the Republic of Tajikistan”.
According to Embassy of Japan in Tajikistan, for the realization of the project, 1,992,000,000 Japanese Yen (equivalent of 17.5 million USD at the rate of 1USD=113.66JPY) will be provided by the Government of Japan to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Office in Tajikistan. Through the project, the asphalt plant will be installed and road maintenance equipment such as road roller, vibration compactor, and asphalt finisher will be provided.
Sughd and Eastern Khatlon are the targeted regions of the project, where approximately 3.6 million people live. The equipment for road maintenance will be provided to State Enterprise of Transport Management of these regions, covering a total of 5,600 km of road networks, which are connected to neighboring countries. The road networks play the important role in both international and domestic material flow in Tajikistan. However, the unfavorable road condition caused by deterioration of roads and insufficient road maintenance work due to the lack of equipment for maintenance have been the obstacle to the smooth material flow in the regions and neighboring countries. Under these circumstances, in 2014 the Government of Tajikistan requested the Government of Japan the Grant Aid for supplying asphalt plants and equipment for road maintenance, snow clearance and repairing of damages caused by natural disaster.
