The length of tunnel is 1,794 meters and it has the capacity to contain 3500 m3 of water per second.
The third tier tunnel, as a spill tunnel, is mainly used to regulate water in the reservoir of the power station in the probable cases, including when the water level in the Vakhsh River increases.
The Head of State Emomali Rahmon, during his acquaintance with the site of the construction of the repair-emergency gates located at the entrance area of the named tunnel, gave specific instructions and tasks to the responsible persons of OJSC «Rogun HPP» and the contractors’ companies for the timely completion of the remaining work.

During the construction and after the complete commissioning of the Roghun Hydroelectric power station, in cases of rising water levels in the river and reservoir, the gates in the named tunnel automatically open and eliminate the possible emergency cases. In this case, the gate opens, and the excess water of the reservoir flows into the river.
