DUSHANBE, 28.06.2017 /NIAT “Khovar”/. “Hungary highly appreciates Tajikistan’s efforts in protecting the Tajik-Afghan border. Protecting it, Tajikistan protects the Eurasian and European region”, — said Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary following the meeting with the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
According to him, the containment of terrorism, religious extremism and illegal drug trafficking on the Tajik-Afghan border contributes significantly to security in Europe. “We intend to initiate financial assistance to Tajikistan by the European Union in the amount of 100 million euros to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border”, — he said.
Hungary and Tajikistan have also linked the issues of water management. According to Peter Szijjarto, the presidents of the two countries are initiators of water issues within the UN.
“Tajikistan has huge reserves of water, half of Asia’s water reserves are in your country. Hungary intends to assist in providing technology for the development of these resources. We have created a line of credit in the amount of 38 million euros for the training of 20 Tajik specialists in the universities of Hungary in the field of water management”, — Peter Szijjarto has added.
“From July 1, Hungary will chair the Visegrad Group (V4 — Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Czech Republic), and during this period we intend to establish closer relationships between the countries of Central Europe and Central Asia. Today, I received the support of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to implement these plans”, — Peter Szijjarto has concluded.
