Cooperation of Tajikistan with IAEA, UNIDO and UNODC discussed in Vienna
DUSHANBE, 23.10.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. Muzaffar Huseynzoda, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, on the sidelines of the political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Austrian Republic, has met in Vienna with Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to the MFA Information Department, during the meeting actual issues of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the IAEA have been discussed.
It is reported that the parties focused on strengthening technical cooperation and safeguards implementation, including realization of IAEA projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, training of Tajik experts and participation of Tajikistan in regional IAEA projects.
Also MFA reports that On October 19, Tajikistan’s Deputy FM Muzaffar Huseynzoda, on the sidelines of the political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Austria, has met with Li Yong, Director General of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
According to the source, both sides expressed their satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Tajikistan and UNIDO, noting the implementation of the projects entitled “Industrial modernization and competitiveness improvement of carpet weaving, embroidery and textile sectors” and “Fostering inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in the New Silk Road Economic Belt: Leveraging potentials of industrial parks, zones and cities in Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan” as good examples of such collaboration.
“Deputy FM Huseynzoda has called on Li Yong and his Organization to continue the already established fruitful cooperation, including in the process of implementation of the National Development Strategy of Tajikistan until 2030 and the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028”, — reads the message of the Foreign Ministry.
On the same day, on the sidelines of the political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Austrian Republic, Muzaffar Huseynzoda, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan has also met in Vienna with Yuri Fedotov, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
According to the country’s Foreign Ministry, the parties have discussed the main aspects of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and UNODC, as well issues related to anti-drug activities at the regional level.
It was noted that the Republic of Tajikistan is one of the important partners of UNODC in the fight against illicit trafficking of drugs produced in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
