Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon had a meeting with the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov
DUSHANBE, 09.06.2018. /NIAT “Khovar”/. On the sidelines of the Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Qingdao, China, the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon had a meeting with President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov to discuss current state and future prospects of bilateral good-neighborly relations.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation within authoritative regional and international organizations, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
It was noted that Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have a unified position in solving global issues and pay special attention to the development of bilateral relations in ensuring international and regional security.
The Heads of State exchanged their views on importance of further expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, boosting trade turnover between their countries, using water and energy resources, the timely implementation of the grandiose project of regional importance – CASA 1000 and setting up Tajik — Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Commission pertaining to bilateral issues.
For a sooner resolving of state border issues it was proposed to sign the Agreement on the State Border and the Intergovernmental Agreement on the prohibition of economic activities on the state border lines between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan through to an end of a certain phase and the separation of the border line. In order to solve socio-economic problems it was noted that the Keramik checkpoint should be recognized as an international one.
The two presidents also discussed topical bilateral matters focusing on ways of expanding cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, establishment of enterprises for processing of agricultural products, transportation and transit links and in other economic fields.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
