On the sideline of the Meeting of the Heads of Government Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.

The President of our country, Emomali Rahmon, welcomed Prime Minister of Russia here in Tajikistan and expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to meet and discuss a range of bilateral and multilateral matters.

It was emphasized that our country attaches significant importance to further expansion of strategic partnership with the Russian Federation.

During the meeting, the sides discussed promising sectors of cooperation, in particular trade, economy and business. They also called for stepping up of the activity of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. A special attention was given to energy and infrastructure development cooperation.

The two sides discussed issues related to increase of supplies of environmentally healthy fruit and vegetables to the Russian market and speeding up the process of financing by Russia of establishment of transport and logistics centers in Tajikistan.

The parties considered prospects for military and military-technical cooperation, primarily on joint measures to strengthen Tajikistan’s defense and border capabilities.

Particular attention was paid to expanding cooperation in the field of culture, science and education, in particular, the construction of new secondary schools in Tajikistan with Russian-language lessons and providing our educational institutions with Russian-speaking teachers from the Russian Federation.
