Emomali Rahmon meets Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan
DUSHANBE, 26.04.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Today on the sidelines of his official visit to China and on the margins of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held talks with the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan.
The current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation were discussed during the meeting.
President Emomali Rahmon expressed his satisfaction with the current state of Tajik — Pakistani relations, which is based on mutual trust and understanding.
The parties confirm their interest in the implementation of agreements signed by both countries, regulating their relations in the fields of economy, trade, mutual protection and promotion of investment, information, culture, education, healthcare, tourism, air communication and security cooperation.
The two sides agreed to consolidate and expand the Tajikistan – Pakistan Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and hold the meetings of the Tajikistan-Pakistan Council of Entrepreneurs as well as Energy, Oil and Gas Industry Working Group that drive further economic development of the two countries.
The implementation of the historic Central Asia-South Asia power project (CASA-1000) project was called an outstanding example of bilateral relations.
During the discussion of security issues, the two sides paid special attention to cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime, as well as strengthening the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation within the framework of international and regional organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
Pakistan plans to participate in the 5th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which will be held in Dushanbe this June. The summit will contribute to ensuring peace, stability and security and will establish new ways of strengthening creative collaboration.
