European Council President Tusk First Time in Tajikistan
DUSHANBE, 30.05.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Just arrived in Dushanbe! First time in Tajikistan!!!, posted yesterday European Council President Donald Tusk on his Facebook page upon arrival in Tajikistan.
Tusk arrived in Tajikistan yesterday. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin and other officials welcomed him at the Dushanbe International Airport. Then Tusk and Muhriddin held short talk in the VIP-hall of the airport.
President Tusk will travel to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan from Wednesday 29 May to Sunday 2 June. The European Union has just launched its new EU-Central Asia Strategy; President Tusk’s trip is a further expression of the EU’s commitment to stronger partnerships with the region and the individual countries, reports the European Council’s Press Centre.
During his visit, President Tusk will meet President Emomali Rahmon in Tajikistan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and First President Nursultan Nazarbayev in Kazakhstan, and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Uzbekistan, says the source.
Beyond regional and bilateral cooperation, climate change, protection of the environment and border management as well as regional security will also feature high on the agenda.
In 2014, Donald Tusk was elected to the position of President of the European Council and in 2017 re-elected for the second mandate of 2.5 years.
