President of Tajikistan Receives SCO Secretary General Vladimir Norov
DUSHANBE, 17.05.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – On the sidelines of the conference International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and Its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the SCO Secretary General Vladimir Norov.
The current state and prospects for developing relations between Tajikistan and SCO member nations were discussed with a focus on economic, culture, education, science, sports, tourism, as well as the cultural heritage of SCO nations’ cooperation.
Likewise, the parties exchanged their views on the implementation of huge projects in the fields of transportation, energy, industry, construction infrastructure, telecommunications, advanced technology and innovation, and the development of the agricultural sector that drives economic cooperation for the benefit of SCO member states.
It was emphasized that Tajikistan is in favor of updating the economic platform of the SCO, implementing projects within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, creating transportation and logistics routes that connect China with South-East Asia, Central Asia, Russia and European states, and establishing financial institutions, i.e. the Development Bank and the SCO Development Fund as well as the SCO Anti-Drug Center.
The two sides continued a substantive exchange of views on key issues of cooperation of the SCO member states in ensuring regional security, improving the difficult political situation in Afghanistan, strengthen the border control capacities of Tajikistan, and jointly fighting terrorism, extremism and their financing.
