Assembly of Representatives Approves Law Requiring Content Rating System for Movies
DUSHANBE, 29.04.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Assembly of Representatives approved amendments and additions to the Law On Cinema, which now requires age range notifications before broadcasting movies.
“The draft law was submitted in order to improve legislation,” said the Deputy Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee for International Affairs, Public Associations and Information Bakhtovar Safarzoda.
The authorized state body in the field of cinema is now obliged to establish the age range classification of movies before their screenings.
“Before broadcasting or showing a movie, the responsible persons should notify the viewer what age range (+0, +6, +12, +16 and +18) the movie has been determined to be most appropriate for, according to international standards,” noted Safarzoda.
The amendments were approved by a majority vote. The law will come into force after passing other stages of legislation and publication in the official press.
