Elections Commission Holds Meeting on Upcoming Presidential Election

DUSHANBE, 07.08.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) held a meeting on the preparations for the upcoming presidential election.
The meeting was headed by CCER Chairman Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda.
In order to fulfill the joint decree of the National and Representatives Assemblies dated August 6, according to which the presidential election is scheduled for October 11, and in order to conduct this important political campaign at a high organizational and political level, the meeting focused on a draft calendar plan of major events on the preparations and conduct of the presidential election and the establishment of constituencies.
The plan provides terms for the formation of constituencies and polling stations, the establishment of their commissions, the nomination and registration of candidates for the post of president, and other organizational issues relating to the stages of the election process.
The planned activities are of an organizational and informational nature, and their implementation within the timeframes established by law will facilitate the conduct of the presidential election at a high organizational, political, free, transparent and democratic level.
The plan was approved by the commission’s relevant decision following the discussion.
Also, in accordance with Articles 8 and 12 of the Constitutional Law of Tajikistan On Presidential Elections, by the Commission decision 68 constituencies were established in the country for the presidential election, indicating the territory and the number of voters, all of which were named and numbered.
