FM Muhriddin Meets Speaker of Afghan House of the People Rahmani

DUSHANBE, 01.03.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the Speaker of the House of People (Wulusi Jirga) of the National Assembly of Afghanistan Mir Rahman Rahmani.
The meeting focused on the situation in the region and Afghanistan, the process of inter-Afghan negotiations, relations between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in various fields, strengthening and expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation, legislation and exchange of experience.
The Tajik Supreme Assembly, together with the parliaments of foreign countries through friendship groups, solves legislative issues that are important for all the countries involved. For this purpose, such a group was established between the Representatives Assembly of Tajikistan and the House of People of Afghanistan with the goal of making a significant contribution to the development of inter-parliamentary relations.
It was noted that the relations of friendship, cooperation and partnership between the two countries facilitates in sharing equal or similar positions on topical international and regional issues.
The parties noted that the joint fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking is an important area of cooperation between the two countries. In order to overcome the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is necessary to increase cooperation and partnership between the two countries.
Tajikistan supports the efforts of the Afghan government in ensuring security, peace and stability in the country and welcomes the process of inter-Afghan peace talks in Doha. The Tajik side hopes that the inter-Afghan peace talks will serve to restore peace and stability.
Tajikistan recognizes the key role of Afghanistan in ensuring security throughout the Central Asian region and has always supported constructive initiatives of the international community to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan and its economic and social recovery.
Tajikistan and Afghanistan are successfully cooperating within the framework of international and regional organizations such as the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the high level of political and inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.
