DUSHANBE, 30.06.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Chairman of the National Assembly Rustam Emomali received the Speaker of Afghanistan’s House of the People Mir Rahman Rahmani, who arrived in Tajikistan with a parliamentary delegation as an observer to attend the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA).
Rustam Emomali noted that fraternal ties between the peoples of Tajikistan and Afghanistan have deep historical roots and are a solid foundation of modern relations between the two countries.
“Further development of bilateral and multilateral relations with Afghanistan is one of the foreign policy priorities of Tajikistan, and in this process parliaments, as a key institution of the state, play an important role in expanding cooperation,” he added.
National Assembly Chairman said that Tajikistan has always supported the efforts of the government of Afghanistan and the world community to establish the peace process, stabilize the political and military situation and ensure the socio-economic development of a friendly and neighboring country.
“Ensuring stability in Afghanistan is very important for Tajikistan and along with ensuring regional security is of great economic and social importance. The geographical location offers many common opportunities for expanding economic cooperation,” noted Rustam Emomali.
Per initiative of President Emomali Rahmon, in order to implement an effective foreign policy of the government and in order to strengthen multifaceted ties between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, bridges of friendship were built on the Pyanj River. On these bridges, the movement of citizens of the two countries has been established, and the creation of cross-border markets, as well as the exchange and export of consumer goods has been expanded. Also, per President Emomali Rahmon’s instruction, flights have begun on the Dushanbe-Kabul-Dushanbe route.
The parties also stressed the need to identify effective ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the near future, as well as multilateral relations within the framework of international and regional organizations, including the CSTO PA.
