President Emomali Rahmon Meets Pakistani President Arif Alvi

DUSHANBE, 02.06.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – On the sideline of his official visit to Pakistan, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held a meeting with the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Arif Alvi.
At the outset of the meeting, President Rahmon offered his gratitude for the invitation and the opportunity to meet with the Pakistani state officials to discuss the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan.
He noted that Tajikistan attaches significance to the development of win-win cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The two sides expressed interest in further development of bilateral trade and shipment of goods and products, and emphasized the necessity of intensifying the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation.
The officials also discussed the state of bilateral cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture, energy, investment, transportation, as well as education and healthcare.
They noted that the implementation of the flagship power project CASA-1000 will help establish an energy corridor between nations. While discussing the development of transport corridors, President Rahmon noted Tajikistan’s interest in joining regional transport corridor projects and access to Karachi and Gwadar seaports. He noted these as vitally important for strengthening economic ties.
They also exchanged views on regional security, jointly addressing global threats, including terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and transnational organized crime.
In connection with the solution to the Afghan problem, President Rahmon stressed that Tajikistan welcomes the implementation of any projects necessary for the revival of economic and social life and security in Afghanistan.
The talks were held in a warm and cordial atmosphere. President Rahmon invited the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi to visit Tajikistan.
