Tajik Delegation Attends the Second United Nations High-Level Conference on Counter-Terrorism

DUSHANBE, 01.07.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – On June 28-30 in New York, per initiative of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres in a hybrid (face-to-face and virtual) format, the Second UN High-Level Conference on Counter-Terrorism was held on the topic “Countering and Preventing Terrorism in the Age of Transformative Technologies: Addressing the Challenges of the New Decade” with participation of the heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies and Foreign Ministers of the UN member states. The delegation of Tajikistan, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin, attended and addressed the event.
During his speech, Muhriddin briefed participants on efforts of Tajikistan in the field of preventing and countering security threats and challenges, as well as results of the High-level Conference on “International and Regional Cooperation in Countering Terrorism and its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime” on 16-17 May 2019, in Dushanbe, and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Tajikistan and the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism within the framework of the Dushanbe Process on combating terrorism and its financing.
He noted that the 2019 Dushanbe Security Conference was organized as a follow-up to the First United Nations High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of Member States in New York on 28-29 June 2018 under the theme “Strengthening International Cooperation to Combat the Evolving Threat of Terrorism.»
