DUSHANBE, 30.08.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas.
The discussion covered current issues of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany, as well as a number of topical matters on the regional and international agenda, in particular the developments in Afghanistan.
Expressing concern over the difficult situation in Afghanistan and its consequences on Central Asia as a whole, President Rahmon noted that one of the factors necessary for the stabilization of Afghanistan is the establishment of an inclusive government with the participation of representatives of all ethnic minorities.
Referring to the role of the United Nations, he stressed the need to take the necessary measures under the auspices of this organization and the vital importance of active participation of the international community in the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
He emphasized that powerful countries should not remain neutral, but rather attempt to stabilize the situation in the neighboring country, otherwise Afghanistan could be involved in a protracted civil war.
He also called for the provision of comprehensive and targeted assistance to the people of Afghanistan in the light of the economic and social crisis.
The conversation also touched upon certain matters concerning the provision of technical assistance to the border area with Afghanistan.
The sides expressed concern over the possible transformation of Afghanistan into a base for international terrorist groups and expressed readiness to combat terrorism, extremism, and transnational crime.
