Tajikistan’s International Initiatives on Water and Glacier Preservation Discussed in Glasgow

DUSHANBE, 04.11.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday in Glasgow, on the sidelines of the COP26, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Muzaffar Huseynzoda met with the UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States Courtenay Rattray.
The meeting focused on issues related to the development of inclusive cooperation with relevant UN agencies, joint coordination of steps to address the effects of COVID-19, vaccine shortages, as well as the prevention of the consequences of climate change and its negative impact on the environment.
Huseynzoda provided information on Tajikistan’s international initiatives in the field of water and glacier preservation, in particular the essence of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028.”
The parties expressed deep interest in promoting an effective and comprehensive dialogue between Tajikistan and the UN in areas of mutual interest, in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Vienna Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries.
