Foreign Minister Receives UN Representative Delegation

DUSHANBE, 08.12.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin received the UN representative delegation consisting of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Central Asia, head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Natalya Gherman and Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre of the UN Office on Counter-Terrorism Jehangir Khan, who are on a working visit in Tajikistan.
The parties expressed their interest in strengthening and expanding the cooperation of Tajikistan with the UN in various fields, including ensuring peace and stability in the world, combating modern threats and challenges, protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable and social development.
The meeting also focused on the issues of the regional security, strengthening Tajikistan’s cooperation with the UN counter-terrorism units, especially with the Counter-Terrorism Centre of the UN Office on Counter-Terrorism, as well as the prospects for joint action in this area.
Muhriddin emphasized that Tajikistan condemns international terrorism and extremism and supports the effective implementation of the Joint Plan of Action for the Implementation of the United Nations Global Counter Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia and UN Secretary General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism.
He also congratulated Gherman and Khan with the beginning of the 4th phase of the Joint Plan of Action for the Implementation of the United Nations Global Counter Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia, the official ceremony of which will take place today in Dushanbe within the framework of the 11th meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Central Asian countries.
