DUSHANBE, 06.12.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – During the period of its membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO), Tajikistan has made significant achievements. This was stated on December 3 in Geneva by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda at a meeting with the WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
The achievements relate to the sectors of trade development, strengthening the country’s export potential, simplifying trade procedures, and its economic development in general.
“As a result of WTO membership, the number of our trade partners has increased from 90 to 110, the volume of exports has doubled, and the name of export goods has increased 1.8 times. The «single window” system was introduced to simplify exports, imports, and transit procedures, and a number of important reforms in the field of trade have been implemented,” noted Zavkizoda.
Specific recommendations have been proposed for holding high-level meetings for reviewing Tajikistan’s trade policy. The WTO meeting will be held from December 6 through December 8.
Okonjo-Iweala praised Tajikistan’s achievements.
Zavkizoda invited Okonjo-Iweala to participate in a high-level event on the interim results of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028,” which will be held in the summer of 2022 in Dushanbe.
