EU, Tajikistan Discuss Climate Action and Environmental Protection Initiatives

On April 7, Chairman of Tajikistan’s Committee for Environmental Protection Sheralizoda Bahodur Ahmadjon met with European Union Country Director in Tajikistan Radosław Darski.
According to the committee, Sheralizoda briefed the EU delegation on its structure and activities, including state oversight of water resource protection, wastewater monitoring and the operation of an analytical laboratory. He also noted that a new edition of Tajikistan’s Red Book is being prepared.
The sides discussed efforts to protect and develop specially protected natural areas, as well as plans to create new ecotourism routes.
Darski highlighted Tajikistan’s unique natural environment, including its glaciers, lakes, forests and biodiversity, and reaffirmed EU support for initiatives aimed at greening the country and strengthening climate resilience.
The EU also expressed readiness to cooperate on air pollution control, waste management, including waste separation, and environmental education.
Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in these areas to help improve Tajikistan’s environmental situation.
