Historical and Cultural Objects of Sughd Will Be Included in the Cycle of Awards of the Great Silk Road

DUSHANBE, 13.04.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, with the support of UNESCO, the study of documents of the Khujand Fortress, Architectural Complex of Sheikh Muslihiddin, Shirin Fortress of the Spitamen district, Hazrati Shoh Isfara Mausoleum, Kah-Kah Fortress of the Shahristan district, and the Abdulatif Sulton Madrasah (nine domes) of Istaravshan is planned to be included in the award cycle Great Silk Road from the regional transition “Fergana — Syrdarya.” This was said on April 11 at the meeting of the Chairman of the Sughd region Rajabboy Ahmadzoda with the UNESCO regional representative for Central Asia Christa Pikatt.
Chairman of the region noted his appreciation of the role of UNESCO in the preservation of historical monuments, development of science, education, medicine and culture, and also expressed satisfaction with the fruitful cooperation with this international institution.
Despite the spread of the pandemic in 2020, with the support of UNESCO, the 5500th anniversary of ancient Sarazm, which was included on July 31, 2010 in the UNESCO World Heritage List, was celebrated.
There are 1190 historical and cultural monuments in Sughd, of which 13 are of universal significance, 91 of republican, and 1086 of local significance.
These monuments represent the world-famous culture of the Tajik people and help attract tourists.
Pikatt expressed satisfaction with the fruitful cooperation between the executive body of state power of the region and the international organization UNESCO on the implementation of various projects.
The parties also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation and presenting the cultural heritage of the Tajik people to the world community.
