Khatlon Region Will Export Agricultural Products to Kazakhstan

DUSHANBE, 20.01.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, the Acting Chairman of the Khatlon region Davlatali Said met with the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Tajikistan Valikhan Turekhanov.
The meeting focused on important aspects of agricultural trade between the two countries.
Said told the guests about the important areas of entrepreneurship in the Khatlon region.
The Ambassador of Kazakhstan mentioned that it is planned to strengthen long-term bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture and increase the export of products, including onions, carrots and cabbage. Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan are counting on an advance payment of $15 million, in case of stable work, this amount may increase to $45-50 million.
The delegation from Kazakhstan shows great interest in the purchase of Tajik grapes. It is expected that cooperation in this area will expand.
Khatlon region can produce up to 500,000 tons of onions per year, while the demand of the consumer market in Kazakhstan is on average from 35 through 150,000 tons of onions per month.
Due to the high demand for this type of product, Said called on his first deputy and agricultural specialists to use all opportunities to expand the area under onion crops and increase production volumes.
Onions produced in Tajikistan are environmentally friendly and one of the best in Central Asia.
According to the information, in 2021 the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $1.2 billion, and this year this figure will be increased to $1.5 billion.
It was noted that the Jayhun district is one of the places for cultivation of lemons. Currently, a large number of lemons are grown in this district, which can be exported to Kazakhstan.
The delegation of Kazakhstan also visited the Jaihun district in order to get acquainted with the agricultural potential in more detail.
