Currently, about 20 projects worth $914.7 million are being implemented in Tajikistan with financing from the Asian Development Bank, accounting for 19.5% of the country’s total public investment portfolio.
The figures were announced March 3 during a meeting between First Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Hokim Kholikzoda and ADB President Masato Kanda.
The projects span multiple sectors, including transport, energy, agriculture, water supply, health care, education, digitalization, tourism and finance.
Since the start of ADB operations in Tajikistan, nearly 200 projects totaling $2.9 billion have been implemented with the bank’s support, including more than $2.4 billion in grants. The funding has significantly contributed to the country’s socioeconomic development and strengthened bilateral cooperation.
Despite external shocks and ongoing global uncertainty, Tajikistan’s economy has posted steady growth in recent years, supported by consistent reforms, the officials said.
During the meeting, Kholikzoda and Kanda launched ADB’s Strategy for Tajikistan for 2026–2030. They expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the Country Partnership Strategy for 2021–2025 and emphasized the importance of adopting the new five-year strategy.
The 2026–2030 strategy outlines Tajikistan’s key priorities for sustainable development, with particular attention to supporting construction of the Rogun hydropower plant.
Officials said annual inflation stood at 3.5%, reflecting continued macroeconomic stability.
ADB is actively supporting transport projects aimed at modernizing roads, transport and logistics hubs, and improving operational efficiency.
The bank is also leading the “From Glaciers to Farmers” initiative, a $3.5 billion regional program being implemented in nine countries in Central and South Asia, with Tajikistan designated as a pilot country.
In addition, ADB, together with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, is financing the reconstruction of the Guliston-Kulyab highway. The project totals about $80 million, with ADB providing 60% of the funding.
Tajikistan also continues to prioritize private sector development and the creation of a sustainable, transparent and attractive investment climate.
