Islamic Development Bank Will Continue Financing Priority Projects in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 06.02.2023 (NIAT Khovar) — The purpose of the visit of the delegation of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) to Tajikistan is to get acquainted with the implementation of bilateral projects and the progress made by the Government of the country in their implementation. This was stated today at a briefing by the Vice-President of Operations at the Islamic Development Bank Dr. Mansur Muhtar following the meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
According to him, during the period of cooperation with Tajikistan, the IDB allocated more than $620 million for the implementation of 92 projects. These projects are being implemented in the areas of education, healthcare, energy, transport, irrigation and other priority socio-economic sectors of Tajikistan.
“This year, the Bank will provide $250 million for the implementation of 4 projects, which, first of all, will be directed to the implementation of important projects in Tajikistan, including the Rogun HPP,” Muhtar emphasized.
He noted that the Tajik side spoke in detail about the importance of the Rogun HPP and its strategic role for Tajikistan and the region. Once again, the IDB expressed its readiness to finance priority projects in Tajikistan.
“In this direction, the Bank will intensify work to attract investments to the Rogun HPP project from other structures and financial institutions,” he said.
Muhtar also reported that the meeting focused on issues of cooperation in the development and implementation of a partnership strategy between Tajikistan and the IDB, the need to finance recovery measures after the pandemic crisis, and reduce the impact of external factors on the Tajik economy.
