DUSHANBE, 10.05.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – As part of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Tajikistan, top-level negotiations between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were held.

The discussion of issues of cooperation between the two countries began at a tete-a-tete meeting of the heads of state of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon and Honorable Serdar Berdimuhamedow, and continued with the participation of large delegations of the two countries.

At the meeting, which took place in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding, the heads of state considered in detail a wide range of interstate relations between the two countries and exchanged views on pressing issues of international and regional agenda.

At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, welcomed the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow, to Tajikistan, and emphasized the importance of regular political relations at the highest and high levels and their key role in the continuous promotion of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. At the same time, it was expressed confidence that the state visit of the friendly Head of State to Tajikistan will give a new impetus to the development of the whole range of cooperation between the two countries.

The President of the country expressed that over thirty years of diplomatic relations, interaction between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan has been actively developing in many fields, and the parties have achieved significant results in strengthening their cooperation.

During the meeting, the issues of sustainable development of cooperation between the two countries in the political, commercial, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres were reviewed.

The active expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation was evaluated as an important part of the set of multifaceted relations.

The issues of trade and economic cooperation were touched upon in detail, and the parties agreed to take necessary measures for the further development of this aspect of relations.

In this context, the parties paid attention to such areas of cooperation as industrial cooperation, energy and agriculture sectors, transport and communication.

It was stressed that there are many opportunities in the field of industrial cooperation for the implementation of joint projects in the fields of light industry, production of construction materials and metallurgy, and mutual supply of raw materials.

In the transport and transit sector, the issue of efficient use of Turkmenistan’s transit options for cargo transportation by the state and commercial structures of Tajikistan was discussed.

Upon the talks, the parties paid special attention to the issue of relations between the two countries in the humanitarian sector and discussed the further expansion of relations in the fields of culture, education, science, sports, and tourism.

The parties exchanged opinions in detail on a set of pressing issues of regional and international nature.

During the meeting, the active relations of the parties within the framework of multilateral structures were emphasized.

The President of the country expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for active support of Tajikistan’s global initiatives in the field of water and climate.

During the highest-level meeting and negotiations of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, the parties also had a fruitful discussion on other issues of interest.
