DUSHANBE, 11.07.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – The delegation of Tajikistan, headed by the Minister of Transport, took part in an informal meeting of the leaders of the public and private sectors of the transport field, which was held from July 6 through July 7 in Tashkent.
The meeting was attended by delegations of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, the Secretary General of TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia — a program of international cooperation between the European Union and partner countries on the organization of the transport corridor «Europe — Caucasus — Asia»), heads of international financial institutions, as well as business representatives in the field of logistics and transport.
The head of the Tajik delegation noted that the implementation of large transport and infrastructure projects is the main means of ensuring economic growth. Therefore, today it is becoming more and more obvious that in order to achieve a single economic result, it is important to ensure efficient transport activities and the development of shipping using a multimodal system, activate the logistics sector and create favorable conditions for all participants in this industry.
It was said that Tajikistan, as a developing country that does not have access to seaports, as well as an active participant in international conventions, regional and international initiatives, is doing everything possible to develop the transport industry.
He noted that the Government of Tajikistan outlined the strategic goal of turning the republic into a convenient transit zone, identified priority trade and transit corridors that pass through our territory from east to west, from north to south and are of international importance.
The Minister of Transport said that work is continuing on the effective use of the multimodal corridor «Turkey — Iran — Turkmenistan — Uzbekistan — Tajikistan» with access to the borders of China. The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Transport of China signed a memorandum of understanding, the implementation of which will create favorable conditions for facilitating bilateral and multilateral international road transport. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Turkmenavtoulaglary Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan on the development of international road transport. In addition, Turkiye and Iran are very interested in expanding the effective use of this corridor.
The Minister of Transport of Tajikistan also noted that in October last year in Dushanbe, as part of an international scientific and practical conference on the topic “Logistics and its priorities in the development of transport communications in Tajikistan and the countries of the region”, a pilot project of the Global Transit Document (GTrD) was launched.
The opening ceremony was attended by the leaders of TRACECA, the Intergovernmental Council of Road Workers of the CIS, the International Center for Transport Diplomacy, as well as representatives of the public and private sectors of the countries of the region and other foreign countries.
