DUSHANBE, 14.11.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – The Atlas-Catalog of the Fedchenko Glacier Basin has been published from the series of the Catalog of Glaciers of Tajikistan.
Almost 50 years have passed since the publication of the first Catalog of Glaciers of Tajikistan, many of the data are outdated, so there was a need to compile an updated catalog.
The Atlas-Catalog of the Fedchenko Glacier Basin contains information on more than 20 parameters, in particular, temperature, precipitation, and solar radiation. The catalog is compiled in three volumes of 1200 pages, which contains tabular materials for the last 40 years, that is, until 2022, which together is invaluable material for researchers, graduate students, doctoral students, analysts, politicians and decision makers.
The development of a catalog based on modern technologies will open up broad prospects for the development of glaciology and related branches of science about water and land resources, and will contribute to the further development of many territories of Tajikistan.
The main goal of the catalog is to realistically assess the reserves of snow and ice, their water yield resources, characterize the regime, variability and possibilities of use. It systematizes the diverse results of studying snow and ice, obtained mainly through expeditions and research work since the formation of the Glacier Studies Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.
Currently, work is underway to prepare for publication 12 volumes of the Catalog of Glaciers of Tajikistan, taking into account the river basins, territorial affiliation and similarity of physical and geographical conditions, location and exposure of these glaciers.
The development of a series of Catalog of Glaciers of Tajikistan is a national treasure of Tajikistan.
