Tajikistan and Uzbekistan Hold Meeting of the Working Group on the Joint Use of Water Resources of the Central Asian Transboundary Rivers

DUSHANBE, 26.02.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik city of Guliston hosted the 6th meeting of the Tajik and Uzbek working group on the joint use of water resources of the Central Asian transboundary rivers.
The meeting focused on the results of the project “Reconstruction of the Patar and Sarvat gauging stations in the interstate canals of the Great Fergana Canal and the Northern Fergana Canal,” financed by the Swiss Cooperation Office.
The meeting participants also discussed further steps on the use of automated Patar and Sarvat gauging stations, as well as the possibility of implementing new interstate projects in the field of water resources and other related issues between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The opening ceremony of the automated Patar and Sarvat gauging stations took also place as part of the meeting. They provide automatic recording and transmission of water flow data at these gauging stations and efficient management of water resources in interstate canals.
It should be noted that the automated Patar and Sarvat gauging stations in the process of digitalization of the water sector is considered one of the priority areas of activity of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan.
