Tajikistan Prepares for 2025 Parliament Elections

DUSHANBE, 06.12.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – Issues related to the elections of a new convocation of the Supreme Assembly and local Assemblies of People’s Deputies and Rural Communities were discussed at the meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Tajikistan on December 6.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda.
According to the Presidential Decree dated December 4, the elections of a new convocation of deputies of the Assembly of Representatives and the Assembly of People’s Deputies of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, regions, Dushanbe, cities and districts, rural communities, towns and villages are scheduled for March 2, 2025. Elections of the new convocation of members of the National Assembly are scheduled for March 28, 2025.
The meeting approved the Calendar Plan of Events for the Preparation and Conduct of Elections, including issues of organizing and conducting elections at all levels of representative bodies.
In accordance with Article 12 of the Constitutional Law “On Elections of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan”, by the Resolution of the Central Commission, 41 single-mandate constituencies were organized in Tajikistan for the parliament elections.
The meeting also discussed and adopted a number of instructional acts for lower-level commissions for the election of deputies of the National Assembly and standard instructions for commissions for the election of deputies of local Assemblies of People’s Deputies and Rural Communities and a number of others.
It was also emphasized that the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in collaboration with state bodies and institutions, as well as public associations will help ensure the electoral rights of citizens, create equal conditions for all subjects of the electoral process in compliance with the requirements of the Constitution and laws of Tajikistan.
