DUSHANBE, 28.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – On May 28, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, met with Vice President of the Asian Development Bank Yingming Yang, who arrived in Dushanbe to participate in the first International High-Level Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation.
The meeting discussed issues of developing and expanding cooperation between Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank.
The President of the country, Emomali Rahmon, called the Asian Development Bank one of Tajikistan’s main development partners.
It was emphasized that over the years of cooperation, the bank’s financial portfolio amounted to more than $2.7 billion and, in total, more than 190 projects have been implemented, which have played an important role in the development of the socio-economic sectors of our country.
One of the important topics of the conversation was the prevention and reduction of pressure from external factors on the national economy, including the increasing impact of climate change.
In order to address pressing issues in the social and energy spheres, development of infrastructure and communications, it was considered necessary to attract more investment for the implementation of specialized projects, as well as the allocation of additional grant funds.
It was considered important to strengthen cooperation in the direction of further formation of the digital economy, development of agriculture, transport, healthcare, tourism, and the private sector.
Much attention was paid to the effective implementation of the project «Improving professional skills and employment opportunities», it was also considered necessary to create new jobs and improve the well-being of the population.
It was hoped that the Asian Development Bank would take the necessary steps to support the «International Trust Fund for the Preservation of Glaciers», created under the UN in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution declaring 2025 the «International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation».
An exchange of views also took place on finalizing the next Strategy of Tajikistan’s partnership with the Asian Development Bank for the next five years.
