Rustam Emomali Returns from New York Following Historic World Football Day Celebration at UN Headquarters

DUSHANBE, 23.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – Rustam Emomali, President of the Football Federation of Tajikistan, President of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA), Chairman of the National Assembly of Tajikistan, and Mayor of Dushanbe, returned to Tajikistan after participating in the first-ever official celebration of World Football Day at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
During his visit, Rustam Emomali met with the President of the UN General Assembly and the UN Secretary-General, where discussions focused on the role of sport in advancing the UN’s agenda for peace, unity, and sustainable development.
He attended the opening ceremony of the digital exhibition «Threads of Tradition: Celebrating Tajikistan’s Cultural Heritage» at the renowned Artechouse in New York City
Rustam Emomali also took part in a high-level event dedicated to the global impact of football, underscoring its power to inspire social cohesion and international solidarity.
In his keynote address at the UN ceremony, Rustam Emomali emphasized that football’s core values — fair play, teamwork, and mutual respect — are closely aligned with the founding principles of the United Nations. His initiative led to the UN General Assembly’s historic resolution declaring May 25 as World Football Day.
The visit marked a significant diplomatic and cultural moment for Tajikistan, positioning the country as a leading advocate for sport as a platform for international cooperation.
