DUSHANBE, 15.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – Unusually high temperatures are expected across Tajikistan from May 15 to May 17, according to a warning issued by the Agency for Hydrometeorology.
In the lowland areas of Districts of Republican Subordination (DRS), as well as the Khatlon and Sughd regions, temperatures are forecast to rise between 34°C and 42°C.
Additionally, from May 17 to May 19, elevated levels of airborne particulate matter — PM10 and PM2.5 — are expected in several cities and districts due to incoming dust storms from the southwest and northwest.
Dust haze is specifically forecast for:
May 17–19 in southern and central districts of Khatlon Region;
May 18–19 in the Districts of Republican Subordination, Sughd Region, and the capital city Dushanbe.
The Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense has also issued a warning regarding the rise in river water levels in the Panj, Vakhsh, and Zarafshon basins due to the heat wave.
There is an increased risk of glacial mudflows in mountainous and high-mountain regions, except for the eastern part of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
To prevent accidents, tour operators are strongly advised to coordinate mountain routes in advance with experts of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense.
The Committee further urges the public to exercise extreme caution while:
- Grazing livestock in mountain pastures,
- Fishing in rivers,
- Collecting medicinal plants.
