DUSHANBE, 27.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – A delegation from Tajikistan’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection participated in the 78th World Health Assembly held in Geneva from May 19 to 27.
Under the theme “All for Health, Health for All,” the Assembly gathered representatives from over 200 countries to address global health priorities.
Deputy Minister Zulfiya Abdusamatzoda highlighted Tajikistan’s healthcare achievements, including increased life expectancy, reduced maternal and child mortality, and a 2.5-fold increase in healthcare funding over the past five years. The country has also enhanced its response to communicable and non-communicable diseases.
The delegation presented a report on “Evidence-Informed Decision-Making in Health Policy,” detailing a 2024 assessment of the country’s evidence-based policy ecosystem conducted with WHO and University College London’s EPPI-Centre. The study included stakeholder interviews, focus groups, and review of over 65 health policy documents.
Supported by the European Union and WHO, Tajikistan developed a draft Action Plan to institutionalize evidence-informed decision-making, with final recommendations expected in late 2025.
Tajikistan was re-elected to the General Committee of the World Health Assembly, joining 17 other member states.
