Dushanbe Hosts Talks on Expanding Economic Cooperation Between Tajikistan and China’s XUAR

DUSHANBE, 02.06.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – A meeting between the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan, led by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda, and a delegation from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China, headed by Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Xinjiang and Secretary of Urumqi, Mr. Jiang Zhu, was held on May 31 in Dushanbe.
The sides discussed promising areas for economic and trade cooperation between Tajikistan and Xinjiang in key sectors such as industry, energy, digital technologies, infrastructure, and logistics.
During the talks, Tajikistan presented its investment and trade opportunities. The Chinese delegation was invited to participate in joint projects in various priority sectors including the textile industry, green energy, metallurgy, artificial intelligence, digitalization, pharmaceuticals, logistics, tourism, information and communication technologies. Particular attention was given to cooperation in modernizing the «Kulma-Karasu» border checkpoint.
Mr. Jiang Zhu praised Tajikistan’s dynamic progress in green economy development, industrial growth, and export expansion. He emphasized XUAR’s readiness to strengthen ties with Tajikistan within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and other regional cooperation mechanisms.
Representatives of the Chinese private sector presented concrete proposals for joint ventures, investment in the processing industry, the introduction of advanced technologies, and expansion of cross-border trade and logistics.
Following the meeting, both sides agreed to enhance cooperation through relevant government institutions and private sector engagement, while ensuring the effective implementation of existing agreements and advancing strategic initiatives.
