Tajikistan Submits Five New Nominations for Inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List

DUSHANBE, 21.07.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan has prepared and submitted five new nominations for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List, Minister of Culture Matlubakhon Sattoriyon announced today at a press conference.
It was noted that cultural heritage monuments of Ancient Khuttal have been officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The decision was made on July 12, 2025, during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris.
The nomination encompasses 11 archaeological and architectural monuments located in Vose, Danghara, Jaloliddin Balkhi, Farkhor, and Khovaling districts of the Khatlon Region. These include Ajinateppa, Buddhist Monastery, Hulbuk Fortress, Hulbuk Shahristan, Manzarateppa, Zoli Zard Fortress, Mausoleum of Mawlono Tojidddin, Khalevard (Kofirkala), Zoli Zar Shahristan, Tohir Caravanserai, Shahrteppa and Khishteppa Buddhist Temple
Among these, the Hulbuk archaeological complex, the ruins of the ancient Khuttal capital palace, holds particular significance. Its revival was made possible by extensive preservation work initiated by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Customs Service of Tajikistan, has also undertaken measures to prevent the smuggling of cultural and historical artifacts.
In 2025, more than 20 historical coins were returned to national museums following expert examination and identification as part of the country’s cultural heritage.
